EXTERNAL PAINTING ON BUILDING


METHOD STATEMENT FOR EXTERNAL PAINTING

         INTRODUCTION:
 The purpose of this Method Statement for Painting of Building is to describe in detail the procedure to be adopted.

          OBJECT:
Approved Elevation drawings with color scheme

MATERIALS:
Paint and Finishing Materials: It should be as per approved color and code number.
 Putty & Primer: -It should be as per approved make.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS:
Air compressor, Spray Gun, Jhoola/Suspended platform, Fiber Blade, Paint Brush (as per required size), Painting roller, Masking tape, Sand paper, Polythene sheet, old cloth
    HEALTH AND SAFETY PROVISIONS:
a)  Inspect to ensure that safety belt, safety goggle and safety mask has been used before start of work to avoid any accident.
b)  Inspect and ensure that all ropes & hanging platform are safe for work.
c)   Ensure that one helper should be available at terrace level during painting work to check all the knots of ropes are properly tight.
PREPARATORY WORK:
a)  Prior to any application, the surface must be firm, dry and free from dust.
b)   All repairing work/undulation to be completed before painting.
c)   Mix materials thoroughly as per manufacture’s guideline.
d)  Polythene must be laid at the bottom of the building below the painting area.
e)   Apply masking tape over aluminum window frame to avoid any paint marks on windows.
f)   Polythene should be laid on the floor of the flat, to avoid bubble spray marks inside the flat.
PROCEDURE:
·         Primer is applied on the plastered surface.
·         After that, cement based putty is applied to make the surface free from dents/defects.
·         After the surface is finished, bubble spray is applied. Bubble spray to be applied only on vertical surfaces. For horizontal surfaces and mumty top, putty shall be done after primer.
·         Bubble paint estimated coverage area shall be around 18.3 sqft/kg.
·         Then, 1st coat of paint is applied shall be done within 10 days of bubble spray.
·         Then the final coat of paint is applied.

           WORKMANSHIP:
·         All edges should be Sharp.
·         Repairing should not be visible.
·         Color shade should be homogeneous and no patches to be visible.
·         Each coat applied shall be thoroughly dry before the next coat is applied.
INSPECTION:
·         All elevation features should be in line & level.
·         Joints of two different color paints should be finished such as there is no overlapping of paint.
·         No patch work should be visible.
·         Cleaning of all spread material.
